A major fire broke out at the steel melting shop (SMS) in Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) on Sunday, allegedly due to poor maintenance of the wing. There were no casualties but the accident caused major damage to the cables and machinery.The accident occurred at around 9.30 am during the casting of liquid steel in one of the casters in SMSwing. Liquid steel worth Rs 60-70 crore overflowed, spilling all over the continuous casting machine-2. "The liquid steel fell from the ladle that was carrying about 140 tonnes," sources said.
